Top 3 Unbearably Dull Tourist Attractions (Notes from Under the Tatami Mats–73 … My Adventures in Japan)

Stuck in the middle of nowhere, these so-called “tourist attractions” were sterile, unattractive, and excruciatingly dull.

Wow. Sheep. Sheep on a hill.

Ummh … anyone interested in seeing… ummmh … sheep? Sheep grazing on a hill?

Really. The only things we saw there were sheep, a BBQ restaurant, a statue, and a souvenir shop.

In other words, this tourist attraction had no attractions and nothing attractive. Only tourists.

I still cannot figure out why those tourists were there. Or why I was dragged there.

Ohhh, Canada, sorry about this.

Canadian World, an Anne-of-Green-Gables theme park, somewhere in the middle of Hokkaido

On the day I was dragged there, even the young Canadian girl playing the role of Anne of GG was bored to death.

Fortunately for all sane and fun-loving humans, this pathetic excuse of a theme park went bankrupt and closed down a few years after it opened. _{(Image source)}

The Ishihara Yujiro Memorial Hall, Otaru
Yujiro may have been the Elvis of Japan, but the museum is basically a walk through his very clean home, with its massive, very sterile closets, most of which are lined with thousands of Yujiro’s colorful plaid jackets and neckties. _{(Image source)}
