The Financial Services Agency of Japan has strengthened its policy of issuing business improvement orders to more than five registrants based on the revised fund settlement law such as major bit flyer and QUOINE of virtual currency exchange traders on weekends.

As a result of the inspection, there were lack of employees in the context of expanding transactions in virtual currencies, confirmed transactions suspected of being involved in crime such as money washing, and problems of internal control system were found one after another.
In February, we are also considering a second disposition of Tech Bureau and GMO coins, which issued business improvement order due to inadequacies of system management system.

According to the Japan Virtual Currency Exchange Association, the amount of virtual currency trading in fiscal 2017 was about 69 trillion yen, which has increased about 20 times since fiscal 2004.
The total number of customers has increased to 3.6 million people, strengthening the security accompanying the expansion of business and countermeasures for money laundering are becoming more important.

According to the Financial Services Agency, there are around 100 companies aiming for new entry into the virtual currency exchange industry. The Financial Services Agency says it is pursuing a more rigorous new registration review based on administrative penalties not only for formal dealers before registration but also for registered vendors.
