Welcome to the wonderful world of craft beers! Japan is going through a renaissance with craft beers right now. Baird Beer is based in Japan and has some nice craft beers. I don't drink too many lighter beers though so I can't offer any recommendations, but you should always be safe with a Belgian White.
I can recommend Ales though! Lagunitas is one of my favorite American beers right now. They make several styles and I even found it in Kamakura! There is a "Grand Kirin IPA" in most combini right now that is pretty good.
Fat Tire is pretty famous here in the US. I'm not a big fan though. Did you try it?
