Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) at its 41st Annual General Meeting has announced an upgraded version of the original JioPhone in the form of JioPhone 2. JioPhone 2 will be available at an introductory price of Rs 2,999 starting August 15. The JioPhone 2 looks similar to old BlackBerry phones and offers same features of the original JioPhone. The major difference is the QWERTY keypad and support horizontal viewing.
The new JioPhone 2 offers a QWERTY keypad with a dedicated button for the voice assistant. The device supports offers support for 24 Indian languages and voice commands. There is a 2.4-inch QWGA display with a dual nano SIM card slot. It is backed by a 2,000mAh battery. On the camera department, the JioPhone 2 offers a 2MP rear camera along with VGA front camera. There is support for 4G VoLTE, of course. It offers 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB. The JioPhone 2 offers FM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS support.
The JioPhone 2 is powered by KaiOS. It is a web-based platform that uses open standards such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. It made its India foray with JioPhone in July 2017 and gained a 15% of the mobile OS market beating Apple iOS as the second widely used in India, as per DeviceAtlas’ latest Mobile Web Intelligence Report.
