Oh a question that I can answer as I have worked for “Pizza Hut” instead of Domino’s, but the money we make doesn’t differ a lot, it’s all hooked up in the same chain, just called by different names.
I even had an Interview for that role as I remember I was in my 2nd year of my engineering. It was semester holidays, so I went to these stores and asked whether they could offer a part time job.
I’ve been to most of the outlets in my city and finally ended up in one of the outlets as they were in need of a delivery guy as one of their guys was missing.
So the nature of the work won’t be just the delivery whenever an order is placed. You have to do many things, they will never let you be idle.
Seriously, initially during the interview the manager thought I was a drop out but hired me after I told him I am an engg graduate and just needed to make some money for a tour with friends. As I was an intermediate there, they used me whenever there was a need.
The roles which I took chronologically in the pizza hut were
1.Greeter
I was a bit fluent at that time in English, and also they were lacking a person who could welcome the customers (in English) and offer them water followed by menu card.
Also I was supposed to memorize the entire menu card and certain ingredients of the pizza whenever asked, during the leisure time.
2.Delivery Boy
Deliveries will be peak during Evenings to night. You will be provided the address and the pizza variant, other drinks etc…, you need to pick them up from the oven correctly and pack it into the box and deliver it to the specified address in time, irrespective of the traffic and the location, you need to cruise over the nooks of the streets and make sure you’re in time and positive customer feedback is important.
You are provided with the fuel (depending upon the distance) and your choice of bikes for delivery.
Not like the above picture, the bike which you have never imagined, nevertheless in a good driving state.
3.Cleaner
Even though I worked part time, we needed to work minimum 8 hrs and it always overflowed. Sanitation is very important and they are pretty strict about that, each and every table, chair, door, the utensil, kitchen and whatever you see from the moment you enter the shop has to be cleaned.
This work will simply consume a lot of time and normally ends early morning by 3.
Apart from that I used to assist the chef, chopping, cutting, refilling. From the ingredients in the kitchen to maintaining the air conditioner degree to noting down the electricity units consumed per day to servicing those motorcycles.
I have never undergone such a rigorous training ever in my lifetime.
But always I tend to learn something from whatever I do and I never regretted working there, it will give you a different level of tenacity.
Pros :
I ate every goddamn pizza variant out there to choco truffle cakes.
Completely lost the fear to speak to a stranger as I was trained to greet the customers.
Knows most the routes of my city, energy consumption as I travel to most of the places using my cycle.
Increased level of dopamine content and high brain reflex action while delivering the pizza, once it’s delivered late we lose the pizza and as well as it’s respective price for it, it’s a free delivery then.
Finally the salary slip - of a grand sum of ₹ 3000/month at 2015.
Tips gathered from the customers for well being and also for high speed delivery.
Cons :
I never had any, getting scolds from manager very often for mistakes, then compensated by the consumption of pizzas.
