Joy Paper

Joy embodied what it means to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneur's have to be very determined and strong minded people. It's you versus the world, or your idea versus the world. In this movie she is tested many times just to get her idea out there. Growing up she had many ideas and she never got to start them, because no one would patten them or do anything to help her since she was so young. This actually happened to me. One of my main ideas was a drive thru grocery store and I begged my mom to help me start it, but she wouldn't. A couple years later Walmart and others are adding drive up grocery store and it infuriated me. Especially, when covid happen I feel like it could have been great to have around. I believe entrepreneurs are born that way. They just come up with ideas and never stop. In the movie she was the perfect example. She had ideas her whole life. Another main thing about entrepreneurs is they have to have patience and be very passionate about their ideas. In the movie she gives up, because she felt the need to help he parents through their divorce and other issues the family was having. This is just a personal thing for me, but I felt like I needed to throw it in here. She felt the need to live for other people and not herself. I have felt this way for along time and it makes it hard to stay focused on what you need to do for yourself or business. If someone else is going through something you feel the need to stop what you are doing and help them. Which moves everything you need to be doing down your list until eventually you just move on or forget about the thing you were so destined to make happen. It starts to take a toll on your mental health too. Then when you decide to do stuff for yourself and are finally happy something always has to implode and then you are back at square one. It leaves you feeling hopeless and like there is absolutely no hope for you or what you believe in to work out. In the beginning no one liked her idea or all thought it was dumb. She had to come up with her own new ways to promote it or to get people to even acknowledge it. Like how she acted as someone who was interested in it, and started to talk about all the good qualities of it. I thought that was a great strategy to use, especially after no one would acknowledge her at first. Another main thing in entrepreneurship is connections. Building connections will always help, because you have people who can help you when you need it. There is many ways to add connections to your life such as clubs, sports, organizations, and internships. When she went in for her big moment with this guy who could really help her promote her item he looked at her and told her that they don't sell cheap looking items like that. He explained everything that was wrong with it and why it wasn't good enough for them to try to sell. She explained how she knew this product would work and how it would relate to everyone like her. With all due respect a high corporation business owner will not see the benefit to a new mop, so she put it into the prospective of everybody who cleans and how it is so helpful to them. It was self draining, got every spot it needed to and was easy to use. The next main key of being an entrepreneur is confidence. In that moment she showed confidence in her work. You will hear so many people tell you how bad your product or idea is, but if you believe and have confidence in your idea no one can stop you from what you want to accomplish. Only you see the true vision you have for that product, and if you show confidence in that everyone else eventually will. The next thing is adversity. Like I said earlier no one else will truly believe in your vision for your product. In the movie during the biggest moment of her life the guy didn't know how to operate it. Just like that her big moment had turned into her worst nightmare. That is enough to make anyone in the world give up on what they once thought was so important, or such a great idea at the time. I have had my adversities in life. I like to think of them know of learning moments. AN example is in high school I played football, and at the time I thought that was my whole life. I was bigger and slower than the average running back, so I was always doubted. I would have the best season of my life then workout 6 hours a day to get better, but when the season would come around I would make one mistake and I would lose everything I worked for. I had to deal with this every season and mentally it wore me down. I would spend nights crying wondering why I wasn't good or why I even do this for absolutely no reason. Still everyday I would wake up and decide to continue what I was doing. I see it paying off not because I was the best player ever, but because I learned ho to handle adversity. Now when anything goes wrong for me I think back to those times and know that I can do it. Those have changed my life tremendously and in the best ways. I feel like this movie showed all the hardships you will face when trying to start your own business or make an idea you have happen. It hit on all the main points you need to know if you are going to go into this field of work.
