Are you tired of hearing cliches like "hit the ball out of the ball park" or "too much on my plate", "old hat" etc
Put too many of those into one sentence and you get this - "Run up the flagpole that I can not hit the ball out the park because there is too much on my plate."
The purpose of a metaphor is to inspire imagination and to cause an emotional reaction.
How about "as hard as catching a microbe with a fishnet" ?
This one is brand new, I just came up with this right now to make a point.
To have the effect then, the expression needs to be fresh and unexpected.
Another of my favorites is an antithesis - putting opposites together.
Ok, let me try big and small. Hmm. How about
"Small actions speak better than big words"
or
"Small actions beat big intentions"
Or my older line: "We live for the moments to die for".
Another favorite is the chiasmus, the reversal.
Anyone can do it. We do not need to think inside the box, or outside the box.
The truth is there is no box.
