I've been a slacker about posting. I'm the first to admit that. These days of traveling and doing wear me out and when we land back in whatever hotel we are staying in, I really just want to land and let the day settle in.
After my experience with the Vietnamese girls and the Reunification Palace we took off for a night that I now call, "35 Year Old Date Night"! @Brandonfrye and I get tickled about being 35, its a new experience and its hard to believe we are "this old" (even though I don't know many 35ians backpacking through SE Asia).
We were supposed to go out to the Mekong Delta, but with this lingering cough and half cold we decided it was a better idea to sleep in and get some rest. Mid day we sauntered out and thats when we met the girls, ya'll know that story. So, as to not lose out completely on the Delta trip we re-booked for a dinner cruise! This dinner cruise also included tickets to the famous Vietnamese Water Puppet Show!
We rode in these little cart thingys, through rush hour traffic for about 30 minutes before arriving at the little theatre! We had front row seats (until they put a row of chairs in front of us) for this cutest, yet creepiest, show! It was so fun to get curious about how they move the puppets in the water. Come to find out, they use bamboo rods and humans standing about chest deep in the water. The audience cannot see them, all we see are the puppets moving about in the water to the sounds of the orchestra on stage left and right.
After the show, we took off (by van) to the Indochina Queen where we had a very meat heavy dinner while cruising the Saigon River. After a replacement of pork and beef with noodles and veggies we were able to go on deck and see the Ho Chi Minh City skyline behind us. It was a romantic evening until the wild drunk backpackers decided to pound beers and sing reallllly loud for all to hear. Insert eye roll here!
Back to our place, it was time to pack it up. The next day holds a flight to Cambodia!
We told the front desk our flight was at 1pm, they suggested an 1130am pickup time. This made us a litttttle nervous as we figure for an international flight, one would need to be at the airport 2-3 hours early. We arrived, thinking we were running behind, but the check in counter was not even open yet! So we sauntered our way through, made it to the gate, bought a few random items in between and prepared to board our prop plane to Cambodia!
This could have been one of the hottest flights we have ever been on, the aircon started to work about the time of our decent. However, because of an afternoon storm, we got to circle the airport for an extra 10 minutes before landing! Making out way through immigration with evisas in hand, they wanted to give me a little slack because I don't have a lot of room in my passport. I had to see "the boss" who told the dude to just stamp it and get on with it. Only rose by blood pressure by a few degrees.
Hello Cambodia! We were welcomed by a slap of humidity and a lovely guide to take us via chariot, I mean, tuk tuk to our hotel.
One of the things I love about this country is how cheap really great hotels are. The one we chose was around $25 a night! We settled in, booked our tour of Angkor Wat for sunrise the next day, had some stir fry veggies, scoped the streets for a couple snacks, got some cough medicine and went to bed!
Next stop, Angkor Wat!
