Last year, the most frequently Googled health question online was 'What is keto?'.
But that doesn't mean that it isn't without its difficulties, or that some people report getting 'keto flu' or having a bad experience in general with the diet.
Trying to stay keto is a lifestyle diet approach that is very difficult to stick with, most people have been consuming high amounts of carbs their entire lives, snacking multiple times a day, and trying to transition to keto is a drastic change.
Because most patients are unlikely to stick with such a drastic diet change for so long, it's understandable why doctors wouldn't be eager to embrace it, why they would be reluctant to recommend it to their patients. But there are some doctors out there to be found who not only recommend the diet to their patients but who also follow the diet themselves and insist that yes, you can follow this diet in a healthy way.
In fact, there is a group of doctors known as the Canadian Clinicians for Therapeutic Nutrition, who have been integral to spreading keto awareness in recent years. This group represents more than 4,000 doctors who themselves recommend following a low-carb eating approach.
Simply being keto doesn't mean you are automatically going to deprive yourself of needed nutrients, and the issue of missing certain nutrients is one present with any diet, not just keto.
The truth is that we might have been wrong about things like saturated fat and fat in general in the past, and now that scientists are learning more we are starting to unravel the myths.
Doctor's have been losing the trust of patients for years.
Regardless of what the U.S. News and World Report considers to be the best diets around, and that they recently declared keto to be one of the worst, the continued aggressive efforts that we have seen in recent years, attempting to persuade people to avoid considering keto or even eating less food in general, are suspicious to say the least.
More people turning to something natural that works for them, like a shift in eating plans, means that potentially billions of dollars will stop flowing to big pharma.
Ketosis isn't just about losing weight, for many people who follow keto it is about insulin, with followers declaring that it has helped them to stabilize blood glucose levels, lower insulin, and overall promote a feeling of well-being. This is why we also see a rapid rise in popularity for intermittent fasting and interest surrounding autophagy as well. Many people out there are sick, they've been sick for a long time, and doctors have failed to bring them the results that they seek.

If you are an endurance athlete (marathon), then yes you DO need carbs. But as for "hard gaining" - I think I fall in the category - just eat more quality calories. 1g of fat yields 2.25x the calories of carb or protein
so you mean just eat as much fat and protein as possible?
do you have some sources to read into carb, fat, protein, calories?
As far as quality? Thomas Delauer and Sten Eckberg are two excellent sources (especially the latter one, as he has a more educational approach). Another one, Flavor City, has some keto recipes.
As far as "as much": don't forget that total calories still matter. But yes, if you're a "hard gainer", then you likely don,t eat enough for what you spend

Keto has been a back and forth battle for 20+ years now. When it was being touted as the way to go to lose weight in the 90s it took off. I tried it then and I got very sick. Yet I had a friend who lost 50 lbs in 2 months.
It's like everything else, it's not for everyone. Plus for every DR. that tout's it there is one to destroy it. Overall it's all about lifestyle change. It is not meant to be a diet lose the weight then stop.
