WE WERE KIDS

We were kids
We were tender like a budding flower
Our eyes sparkled like the stars spread across the galaxies
Our mouths spake a million dreams from a nightly slumber
Our hands ferreted through filth for priceless treasures
Our legs trailed uncharted course to quench the thirst of adventure.

We were kids
We were the sinless and the guilty
Eyes giving a gibbous reflection of tears and smiles
Mouths speaking half truths and half lies, of laughters and brawls.
Hands tinkering and pilfering, of buildings and destructions
Legs walking escapades and trespasses, of fleeing when danger looms.

We were kids
We were blooming rapidly like the iroko
Our eyes dimmed to the childly naivety that once piqued us
Our mouths hissed to the wanton fantasy that caressed our sleeps
Our hands shrank in disgust to the trickling sweat and grime
Our legs ignored the call of freedom that once wrapped every adventure
We were growing.

We are adults
We are giants of yesterday's dwarfs
Eyes sparkling in reverie of the visions half forgotten, of how we saw the world
Mouths chattering of the dreams and fantasies, of how they were lost
Hands mimicking with difficulty, of things that were small fries
Legs aching in pains and torments, of trees and hills we could easily climb
We wished we were once kids.

Just tried my hands on a bit of poetry.
