Somalia's Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for killing 7 government soldiers backed militant group al-Shabab. On Monday, a suicide bomber exploded in an army base in the southern part of the country. The army base is located in Bar Sangini village, 50 kilometers away from the southern port city of Kismayo.
Al-Shabab's military spokesman Abdiasis Abu Musab said that their members first launched a car bomb in the army base and then shot them with automatic weapons. He claimed that at least 27 soldiers were killed in the attack and many fled to the adjoining jungle.
A government spokesman confirmed the incident to the BBC, saying that there was a massive firing between the two sides in the reconstruction of the base. At least 87 militants including 6 government soldiers were killed.
A military official from Kismayr said that more troops were sent to the base. We understand that the base has exploded. Somali army and al-Shabaab also have a great fight. But we do not know much more than that.
Note that since 2006, the Somali government has been dealing with al-Qaeda-backed extremist militant group Al-Shabab. From 2007 to 2011, the militant groups control the capital Mogadishu. In 2011, with the help of the African Union, the Somalia government was able to free the capital from the prisoners. Since then there is comparative peace and security in Mogadishu.
