Financial authorities determined that the real-name service system for virtual currency transactions would be okay, so they decided to introduce a real-name account for virtual currency transactions on July 20 as scheduled.
A Financial Services Commission official confirmed on July 12 that there had been an inspection with the commercial bank on the establishment of a real-name transaction system for virtual currency transactions and that there would have been no major problems with the system, the statement said on its initial promise.
As for the earlier announcement by Shinhan to delay its real-name policy, it explained that Shinhan has no problem in setting up a real-name verification system.
The government said earlier that it would allow only real name bank deposits on Dec. 28 last year, through a special measure to eliminate virtual currency speculation. However, it was revealed that Shinhan Bank and other banks have decided to suspend the introduction of a real-name bank transaction system for virtual currency transactions. The Financial Services Commission called an emergency meeting of six bank officials who operated a real-name accounting service for virtual currency transactions in the afternoon to discuss countermeasures.
