머리가 조금 크고 과도를 자유자재로 만질 수 있는 나이가 되었던 당시 제일 좋아하던 과일은 사과였다. 사과껍질은 그냥 돌려서 깎기만 하면 되는 거라 다르게 깎아야 하는 과일은 어떻게 깎아야 할지 몰랐다. 예를 들면 망고라던가, 파인애플이라던가 아니면 아보카도라던가. 그 중 망고 깎는 법은 비교적 최근에 알았는데 알고나서는 너무 신기했다. 알기 전에는 ‘어떻게 이렇게 깜찍하고 귀여운 모양이 나오나’ 하고 생각했는데 말이다. 이렇게 잘라진 망고를 한 덩이씩 입에 넣으면 입안에서 사르르 녹는다. 그것이야 말로 천국인 듯 싶다.
예전에 승선하면서 돌아다니던 시절 망고를 한국에 가져왔던 때가 기억나네요~! 딱 두개 챙겨서 내리는데 반입금지인지도 모르고 세관에서 걸렸던 에피소드가 생각나요~
