장구밥나무는 피나무과에 속하는 낙엽 활엽 관목입니다 황해도 이남의 표고 700m 이하 바닷가 산기슭 양지에 흔히 자생하는 종류입니다 장구밤나무 혹은 잘먹기나무로도 불리구요. 원산지는 한국과 중국입니다 꽃은 7월에 노란색 꽃이 피고 열매는 가을에 황색이나 황적색으로 익어갑니다

장구밥나무는 산지에 자생하는 나무로 여름에 연노란 색의 꽃이 피고.열매의 모양이 우리 농악대의 장구 통처럼 종자 2개가 붙어 있는 모습이기에 얻은 이름인 듯합니다 다른말로는 잘먹기나무라고도 불리는데요 그 옛날 우리 민족은 늘 풍요롭지 못한 삶이, 굶주림에 배가고파 나무며 꽃의 이름을 먹을 것과 연관되어 명명했나봅니다 잘먹기나무도 열매가 달착지근하여 사람이나 새나 잘 먹기 때문인듯합니다

장구밥나무는 약용을 한는데요 소화기능의 허약으로 음식을 적게 먹거나 꺼리는 것을 치료하고 가슴이 답답하고 헛배가 부른것을 내린답니다 부인의 자궁출혈과 대하에 쓰이며 소아의 장내 기생충 제거에도 활용된다네요
