THE THIEF

in #krishna7 years ago

As soon as the work truck pulled up and the electrician stepped out of his van i thought, "I shouldn't have hired these people." His energy was so dark and foreboding.

He came close and put his face in my face, eye to eye, our noses were almost touching. He was fair with short light brown hair. His face was round and full with a little reddish glow. His eyes seemed a little swollen and puffy.

I said very cautiously, "Hi. My name is Meena." not knowing exactly what to expect. His demeanor was not at all friendly and easy going. It looked to me like he had just had a fight with his intimate and if he could kill someone it might make him feel a little better.

"My name is Chance." And the ground under him rumbled.
Like a dodo I asked incredulously," Is that the name your mother gave you?" I was thinking what an unusual name. Maybe it was a nickname. But under it all I was thinking what kind of mother did he have that gave him the name "Chance" and produced such an angry miserable person.

"Yes."

It only got worse from there. He made sure to track as much mud into the house as possible. It had been raining,, Smash his tools down a nice little table that had been my mother's. And cover himself with particles of insulation from the attic and walk all through everywhere depositing as he went.

He did repair the wall switch.

As I was signing the receipt I brushed some garden dirt from my hands. I had been pulling weeds while he and his partner worked in the house.

Again with the face to face, nose to nose, eye to eye, maneuver, He said, "A little dirt never hurt anyone."

Phew he was gone.

A few days later as I was going over the monthly budget and trying to balance everything I noticed the emergency cash I kept in a wallet in the small plastic file cabinet was gone. $250 emergency funds that had been there forever. He had been working in that room. Before they arrived I remember briefly thinking, "Maybe I should put the funds somewhere else while the workmen are here" but decided they wouldn't go through my things and take anything. I should have listened to that small still voice that always gives me good counsel but that I very often don't pay attention to.

The only hope for a devotee of the Lord Krishna is to see Lord Krishna everywhere.
