I would not buy without visiting it personally. Are you already in Costa Rica? Otherwise plan a trip for a month and do property visiting. Some land just costs 1$ per m² here. But some costs 100x more.
Yeah, it is a great place to live. Google Costa Rica and you find tons of incredible stories. Like the unique energy situation for example. By 2021 they want to be 100% regenerative. They already achieved that for a month this year and last year. 30% of the country is national park.

No I am in Canada but a lot of Canadians are moving down to Costa Rica for Retirement

Same here in Canada ... except July and August ... then it's too hot
