Landscape of Mexico: natural beauty of the Cozumel Island

in #landscapephotography7 years ago (edited)

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Cozumel!

Occupying a total area of just 647 sq km (250 sq mi), Cozumel is a little island found in the Caribbean Sea, just some 20 km (13 mi) off Playa del Carmen, one of the biggest cities (and our temporary hometown) on Riviera Maya on the Mexican mainland.

Don’t let the miniature size of the island fool you though. One of the most beautiful islands of Mexico, Cozumel has so much to offer - from scuba diving and snorkeling to ancient Mayan ruins, impressive architecture and abundant wildlife.

I was, of course, most interested in the natural sites of the island so I headed south to the Punta Sur Eco Beach Park, a protected natural area with beautiful white-sand beaches, lush tropical vegetation and diverse fauna. In fact, Cozumel is known to be home to several endemic animal species such the Cozumel Emerald, the Cozumel Fox, the Cozumel Coati or the iconic Cozumel Dwarf Raccoon.

Here are some shots I took there.

Panoramic view from the lighthouse. Swamps inhabited by crocodiles on one side of the road, sea full of marine life on the other. Stunning combination conjured up by Mother Nature.

You can usually watch crocodiles lurking in the swamps from this wooden observation tower. Sadly, we were not lucky enough to see any that day :( On the other hand, we have a good reason to visit this wonderful little island again ;)

This is also my today´s entry for the #landscapephotography contest organized by @juliank and @photocontests.

Your presentation is very good quality ..... hope you always give us good quality work

Absolutely stunning!

Thank you for the comment and your support! :)

Beautiful blue skies! Crocodile?! Terrifying in such a beautiful place!

Haha, you are right :) On the other hand, they have been living in the place long before first tourists start coming to the island :) We should respect its their territory :)

That's an incredible location = ) Tropical awesomeness. The water seems crystal clear and close to perfection for swimming and other underwater activities.I would assume there are some really good hotels near the beach which offer some amazing experiences. The location is also fantastic for people that love photography.

Thank you for contributing to the Steemit Community.Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your next posts.

Thanks for this nice comment :) Hopefully you will like my future posts too :)

Nice view and good photos.

Great pictures!

I can see that you love the clouds... so I think you might like to participate in the #LoveTheClouds contest :)

That an amazing and astonishing place!!! Glad you shared the photos with us!!!

Thanks Anna :)

The definition of natural beauty

I can only agree :) Thanks!

Parádička, pěkný fotky. Hned bych vyrazil někam do tepla

V těch -15 stupních, co jsou u nás teď přes noc, by Tě to rychle přešlo a zas by ses těšil do tepla:-)

You've got some really great pictures here man! :)

Cozumel is such a special island and the island where I think I got Dengue from haha. But I'd go back any time.

What?? Really? This is not the kind of information I wanted to read guys :D But thanks for telling me, I think we didnt get many mosquito bites there ;)

Haha .. it's been couple of years. But back then it was horrible ... and the cruise people were spreading it from port to port. haha

I didn't realise that Cozumel was an island. I always thought it was part of the mainland. Your photos make it look stunning!

Nope, Cozumel is an island :) Stunningly beautiful island actually :)

It's amazing all the stuff I'm getting to learn on Steemit. That's a bonus I wasn't expecting! 😊

Absolutely, same here :)

To stačí vystrčit ruku z okna, udělat párkrát cvak, cvak, cvak. A druhý den z druhého okna to samé.... :D ;-)

Thats an amazing place ! Very beautiful photos, Nice work!

Thank you :)

Si? Bueno me alegra.

In Mexico, the most beautiful sea!

I love the beach so much.

Thanks for stopping by Dan, appreciate it :) Yeah, the Mayan Riviera is the most expensive part of Mexico but it is still so much cheaper than most Europe :D But Cozumel is really sweet - small but very beautiful. Great day-trip destination from Playa ;) Another reason for you to re-visit this area :)) Have fun in the Galapagos!
