Inishmore, Inishmaan and Inisheer are three islands at the entrance of the Galway Bay that form the Aran archipelago.
Visiting the Aran Islands is like traveling through the centuries. A grandiose scenario where you meet a people used to live with the wild nature, made of wind and waves crashing on the rocks.
Inishmore, with an area of about 30 square kilometers and just under 900 inhabitants, is the largest and most populated of the three islands. The local people are dedicated to preserving the traditional Irish culture and Gaelic, the language spoken before the colonization of English.
Everywhere there are uncontaminated spaces and a rich heritage, especially archaeological, to be admired.
Among the main tourist attractions of the island there is Dún Aenghus, a stone fortress dating back to the Iron Age, one of the best preserved in Europe, situated on the edge of the Atlantic on the edge of a 100 meters high cliff.
It consists of concentric walls, with the plant similar to a horseshoe, and an open side right on the cliff. These walls, according to the locals, would actually be enchanted circles, in which the fairies gathered to dance.
Looking over the cliff it seems to be suspended between sky and earth, looking down, towards the impressive cliff perfectly vertical on the waves, only the sound of the waves crashing along the rock resounds, marking the slow passage of time. It is a unique place that fascinates and excites, but at the same time it is a mysterious place: looking at the horizon you have the sensation of seeing the outline of a mountainous island emerge in the middle of the sea.
But it is useless to look for it on maps (it was only mentioned until the sixteenth century): in reality it is a mirage, a legendary island called "Hy Brasil", which was believed to be inhabited by saints and heroes. This is one of many stories where you can relive the charm of Irish popular beliefs.
The mysterious island was noted on the maps as early as 1325, when the Genoese cartographer Angelino Dalorto placed the island west of Ireland.
After 1865 the island continued to appear on some maps, but its position could not be verified with certainty. However, over the centuries, the stories that circulated about this imaginary island spoke of it as the home of a rich and advanced civilization.
The mysteries come back in 2002 when they are released by the British Ministry of Defense, the official documents relating to the 1989 UFO incident in the Rendlesham / Bentwaters forest. As described in these documents, in the Rendlesham forest an alien artifact was found containing, in binary code, a message and coordinates that indicate to an island of the Atlantic Ocean famous in legends with the name Hy Brasil .......
