loch an eilein

On a rainy summer's day last August, I set out to cycle from Loch Insh to Loch an Eilein, about an hour's ride up and down the hills in the woods of Rothiemurchus.

I was lucky to have a few dry moments in between the showers, and captured the misty views before me with my unfortunately non-weather-sealed equipment :D

The name of Loch an Eilein comes from the Scottish Gaelic and means 'Loch of the island'. And, loch is the Irish, Scottish Gaelic word for the 'lake'.

In the middle of the lake, on what may be a natural island, are the ruins of a small 15th century castle.

Looks like a beautiful area! Taking photos in the rain and mist is the best, if you can keep your camera dry haha
