Shortlang, the new language for a modern era.

This is the beggining of a new idea that came to my mind some months ago, among all the languages spoken around the world, english is one of them, it is simple and uses less words to achieve a good gommunication. All that is fine but, is there a way to shorten the words and use at the same time a language that can be used in the modern era of internet and techology and allow it a the same time to speak it?

Imagine a new spoken and written language that can be used to save time. There has been many attempts to achive simplicity and usage, this idea is not the first one in place, I suppose there migh be more attempts to do so, Reginald J. G. Dutton created a system called Speedwords https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutton_Speedwords where the main purpose was to shorten universal words and apply a sound to them.

My idea was originated from the Dutton System, but unfortunatelly it seems to be almost dead, with no community around it. And other thing is that does not work well is the pronunciation, since there is no rules written for that or at least any guide with sounds. That is a challenge which I think I can solve.

One system that can carry, simplicity and can be used as a spoken language, one that can shrink the most used words around the world and use it in the internet, one that can be used when chatting and in international conversations, one that can have the minimum rules to learn it, with almost no gramathical rules.

Many people around the world use english language as a “universal language”, what about using a language that has only 3-letters per word.

With this sytem we could save up to 60% in time when written and spoken.

Minimal rules

In order to create the system the words must be at most three letters long, thus this a significative reduction can be acomplished.

Every letter must have at least one vowel.

Pronunciation is done directly from the exact letter, contrary to the english where every word is pronunced differently from its writting, a language that is similar on how the words are pronounced in Spanish, that means every letter is pronounced with one sound, thus avoiding wrong pronunciations.

Consonants and vouels have only one sound per letter.

This is the first post about the idea and will be open to anybody to improve it, totally a community effort, so if anybody have new ideas on how to make it even simple, let’s get together.

Many words are taken from the english language since it has many short words, the main idea is to take words that are very short in other languages too, just bare in mind that the pronunciation will be different, I will talk about that on the upcomming posts. But don’t worry pronunciation must be very simple. There is no point on creating a new language if this is very complicated to speak or to learn.

This system will allow evolution by using the same ideas as open source does.

This will be also a Creative Commons effort.

A living Language, that will evolve all the time as a way of improvement.

Let’s call the system Shortlang (english way of calling it) and Sla (Shortlanguage)

New rules and improvements will be published, right now is the day one, so we have a long journey.

Suggestions and first attempts

Personal Pronouns

Since pronunciation is the same as written, I only will place two columns, one for English and one for Sla

Samples of the new vocabulary

Some verbs

Verbs will be prepared to just add a hypen plus one letter to define other conjugation times such as past, future, gerund, past perfect and so on.

One sample of the new language

English: I am fourty nine years old (21 letters)

Deutsch: Ich bin neunundvierzig Jahre alt (28 letter)

I used Deutsch as an example because this language is one of the longest ones (as far as letters used) to express an idea

Sla: ai am pre-nin ya old (16), — That is 24% less than english

This phrase can be reduced even more to: aim 49 old (8) — that’s 62% less than english and 71% less than Deutsch.

QuoteThe word “ya” (used for “years”) is moved out since “old” can help contribute the main idea, and by using contractions.

The idea is to reduce the usage of letters of at least 60% compared to the media used on most languages. If we can improve it and even reduced more, that is the main goal.

You get the idea, this system is not trying to replace the existing languages (Although it is :))

but to complement the way we chat and communicate in these technology times, where speed and easyness are needed.

This will be the chat and technology language.

Easy to learn and ready to teach it to robots, AI and IoT, later can be used as a programming language where we can chat, speak and program new things by just speaking, awesome right!

I am not an English native speaker, so bear with me if I made some mistakes. I am always learning new things and improving my communication skills.

Connect and colaborate

Let’s create a community on Discord here and spread the idea.

That’s it for now, let’s do it together!
