Some Real News for the New Year. Welcome to 2020.

in #launch5 years ago

With the turn of 2020 comes new hopes, dreams, and aspirations for all humans on this big rock we call Earth. While we all want to see our world develop into a more advanced, and prosperous one than we had in the previous year, can we really be confident that is the case when their reaction depends largely on the person in question?

Why do I need more news?

Media in the 21st Century has not yet adapted to the needs of our ever-changing society. What we think is that people need less news, not more. The lives we lead are incredibly complex, much more than ever before in history. Many of us rely on a number of different outlets to get our daily dose of the news, though many of these very outlets have proven to be untrustworthy and lacking in integrity. This is why we created Some Real News, or SRN for short. We want to reduce the amount of news people consume, by only allowing the truthful and substantive stuff to get posted. We want to serve our readers, as opposed to other outlets that serve the interests of their advertisers. Our aim is to create true change throughout the media landscape in Australia and beyond.

What is so important about the truth?

The need for a truthful and diligent news outlet has never been more apparent. The effects of spreading lies or misinformation can have devastating consequences and can be destabilising for any nation. Australia risks becoming more divided over time as more misinformation is spread across the nation, particularly during elections.

In fact, the Australian media and political pundits always speak of the political divides that exist elsewhere, though consider Australia to be unique in that we are not divided along political lines. We think that due to the spread of misinformation, and the lack of facts when speaking about local, state, and national issues we are seeing an increase in that political divide. Our goal is to develop a strong, independent news organisation that can deliver meaningful content that our readers can rely on. We want to ensure that all sides of the debates are explored, and that we are able to bridge those political divides within our society.

40%

Trust in Media

There are a lot of Australian's who are distrustful of the media. Only 40% of Australian's trust the media.

42%

Trust in Government

There are only 42% of Australian's that trust their politicians, according to the 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer.

What stories can I expect?

SRN will be covering a range of important topics, but most importantly we will be seeking feedback from our readers on what they would like us to focus on. We're hoping to have at least one investigative piece per month be selected by our readers, and our website will have spaces in which people can discuss topic ideas and the articles. We'll be looking to focus specifically on Australian affairs given that is where we are based, though we hope to explore international issues when we get the chance.

Oh yes, and we'll also be developing satire pieces because we want to drive Betoota Advocate out of business for being so damn funny. We also think this is probably about as fun as we can make news.

We will be seeking passionate, skilled, and unbiased writers to create insightful news content for our readers. If this sounds like you, please contact us at [email protected] for more information.
