Leadership Mentoring Guide Overview
I am excited to be sharing this leadership mentoring guide with you as I am myself a lifelong learner and deeply committed to helping others learn and grow in their leadership journey. This guide will provide an overview of the structure, content and topics to include in your own leadership mentoring program.
My learning philosophy is deeply grounded in understanding the theory around a topic and then applying that knowledge in a practical environment to facilitate true understanding. This practicality will provide the opportunity to receive feedback and cement the learnings.
Leadership Mentoring Program – Structure and Outcomes
As with any good training program, it is only with its salt if it is accompanied with a good set of topics but also a good structure and outcomes for the each topic. The following structure will be used for each topic:
- Core content.
- Practical exercise.
- Learning journal.
Core content
The core content will cover the foundational theory pertaining to the topic at hand. The mentor will need to decide how much theoretical content to include as part of each topic.
Practical exercise
Each topic will have practical elements that are needing to be completed in the form of questionnaires or exercises. These are important as they will provider the new leader insight into who they are as a new leader as well as cement the learnings from the topic.
Learning Journal
The learning journal will be used as a technique for aiding and reinforcing learning. The learning journal will provide the mentee an opportunity to self-assess their own development as they work through the leadership topics. The importance of the learning journal is that it should reflect the mentee’s thoughts and not of others. The learning journal will be structured around answering a list of questions at the end of each topic.
Leadership Mentoring Program – Topics
The leadership mentoring program will include 11 topics that will serve as a foundation for all new leaders.
