Once as a child, Malik ibn Anas along with his brother spoke with his father. At that time the father asked them about science. Apparently Malik bin Anas replied with the wrong answer while his brother replied with the correct answer.
"Pigeons have ignored you from learning!", Dad said to Malik ibn Anas.
Imam Malik was very offended by his advice, until he finally chose to spend his time studying Ibn Hurmuz for seven years.
In order not to interfere with his studies with Ibn Hurmuz, Malik ibn Anas also gave the servants Ibn Hurmuz korma and told them, "If anyone asks you about the Shaykh, tell him that he is busy".
Finally, due to Malik bin Anas's persistence in his studies, he became a follower of Maliki's mujtahid who attended his school by thousands of great scholars.
