I am over the moon that my daughter has been selected to represent Trent University (Canada) as a Student Delegate at this year's Scholars at Risk Global Congress in Berlin, Germany.
My oldest daughter and her peers in the Student Association for International Development have been working very hard this past academic year hosting discussions, writing articles and giving presentations to create an on campus movement.
To further their growth, Trent University is sending four students to go to Berlin to participate in workshops, lectures and networking to better increase their resources and knowledge.
Scholars at Risk is an international network of institutions and individuals which seeks to protect scholars suffering threats to their lives, liberty and wellbeing by arranging temporary research and teaching positions at institutions, as well as providing advisory referral services. As Canadians, we often take advantage of the fact that we are relatively free to think, research and publish what we are passionate about. This experience is not consistent throughout the world, of course. In many countries, academics and scholars are imprisoned, harassed or threatened violence to themselves and their families because their work.
While Trent has been very helpful in covering accommodations and registration fees, this opportunity is still rather expensive for a student with only a part-time job during the academic year. So she is reaching out for assistance. They have set a goal of raising $800 as a group, to cover meals and transportation. No help is too little to support their mission.
This is an incredible opportunity for both their professional growth as soon to be graduates, on top of the obvious benefits of protecting at risk scholars and promoting academic freedom.
I can’t be any more proud of the work she’s been doing to help others. She has a heart of gold!

What an amazing opportunity! Help change the world one small step at a time :)
Now imagine the world if everyone would do their part! It’s sad that a peaceful world is just a dream.
