I have to admit...I work "in the industry" but I am getting a bit longer in the tooth than some. That means that while I have decades of experience to draw upon for solid, long-term decision making BUTwhile I dabble with LOTS of various technologies the application of some of those technologies eludes me. Blockchain for example...I get crypto, I get NFTs and contracts (somewhat) but how in the world does that translate to the enormous explosion of DApps or even the Metaverse? Take Ecency for example...this is a social platform...but I can't post unless I have enough...what, "tchotchke", to post? How does that work? Why does that work? For example, I have to wait to post this because, "Insufficient resource credits. Please wait to transact, or power up HIVE." Uh...no...I want to post and get into this but pay for the privilege? I have a yard to mow and a book to read, neither of which require anything but my time.
For that matter...metaverse games...for the life of me I cannot fathom why anyone would pay "real" money for a something that doesn't exist. Why would I pay for a plot of digital land so I can hang out with other "players" in a digital landscape? Or buy skins for things that cost, in some cases, thousands of USDs for something that DOESN'T exist outside that game? To be honest, I love games...people less so...so even when I play games I play those that have solo options. And I always download the **free ** DLC material...but pay for extra stuff? Um...negative ghost rider, wallet is empty...or I should say, it would be if I did that. And yet...folks are "getting rich" on this stuff. How? Don't bother explaining it to me...I won't get it. I am turning into my dad who used to say cars were a fad so hang on to your horse. I wish you luck...I will dabble and sit quietly on the sideline in childlike awe of the explosion of ideas while grumbling in a grandfatherly voice under my breath that the kids these days are crazy and the world is falling apart. Disagree? GOOD...but give it time...the world gets scarier as you go ;)
