I made 2 leather catch-alls. You could also call them leather snap trays, key bowls, or even coasters when unsnapped.
I used scissors to cut finished leather remnants into squares (cough rectangles cough), and snipped off the tips of the corners. This had 2 uses, both making the finished product look better due to rounded corners, and helps avoid sharp corners due to uneven cutting. I then folded the edges in about an inch, eyeballing it. This creates an almost-crease, which helps the finished product end up even and (almost) flat-bottomed.
Folded the leather pieces diagonally in the corners, and used an awl to punch holes about the same place for each corner. Finally, I added plastic snaps.
Thus, when flat it’s pretty compact, just a flat sheet with small snaps. Easy to store. You can stack them and use as coasters even. When the snaps are snapped together, it holds keys and other stuff. I chose to have the finished grain on the outside, for durability, and the suede inside ensures things don’t slide around. You can make it the other way around, with the suede holding your catch-all in place even in a moving vehicle or something. Say, custom storage solution for an RV?
Imagine, a storage system where everything stores flat. And when you need it, choose the right size, snap it together, and enjoy.
Nice
