Feeding the Soul: A Lenten Reflection

The surrender of material appetites and pursuits in deference to the nourishment of the soul reminds us that a bodily fast is paradoxically served by partaking of the sacraments at the altar of the Lord. Would we mortify the flesh? Then let us eat the flesh of the Son of God. Let us drink of His blood. For His body and blood is true food and true drink for the soul, and in our receiving it we find that nourishment for the soul that no earthly sustenance can provide it. And thus, “though the outward man perish, the inward man is renewed day by day(2 Corinthians 4:16)
