About two months ago, I'd discovered that the payout rewards displayed under every article and comment were, in fact, denominated in U.S. Dollars, despite the prominent HIVE icon telling you otherwise.
I'm not sure what the thought process was behind this decision to display it in such a way. Its confusing once you know what you are looking at, and you can't get it out of your head once because it simply keeps clashing with the HIVE icon right next to what's supposed to be the dollar value. Leofinance got ahead of this issue by simply displaying it the way it is, and I commend them for that.
Users noticed this discrepancy when calculating the potential payout in HIVE, as the icon would have you believe, then comparing it to the actual payout that arrived to their wallets. You can read all about the problem in detail and why this extension came to be in my previous article here.
What's changed since then?
We have rewards breakdown within the hover box now!
That's right. In addition to changing the icon to a better resolution at all scales of zoom, as well as changing the phrase from "Hive rewards" to "Dollars to better represent the value you're looking at, now you can see what both the author of a post as well as the curator(s) stand to gain in a break down of the rewards conveniently inside the hover box!
The extension makes use of Coingecko's API in order to fetch the current price of HIVE, then caches the price for 10 minutes to avoid being rate-limited. As for HBD, we simply assume that HBD equals exactly $1 dollar for simplicity's sake.
Installation
Go to the Github page containing the extension, then click on the green button right here, then download the ZIP file:
Once you've downloaded the ZIP, extract the folder inside then drag and drop it onto the chrome://extensions/ webpage of your Chrome browser. That's it!
Probably the final version
...Unless I get another idea to implement. If you would like to see anything changed within the PeakD.com, or within the extension itself, I would be happy to consider it! Thank you for reading and trying out my extension, and I hope it improved the quality of your life as it did mine!
