In 2056, the world has suffered ecological collapse to such a degree that survival has become a privilege of the wealthy elite. The rich inhabit "air domes," sophisticated structures designed to filter the toxic air that permeates the planet. Meanwhile, governments have been supplanted by powerful corporations, and conflicts are resolved via corporate militias. Efforts to seek refuge in space have failed, leaving humanity in a precarious state, with the Nibra Corporation owning Rubikon—the last research base devoted to solving the environmental crisis.
