Chiyo's hard work does not go unnoticed, and with some encouragement, Mother eventually allows her to attend geisha school with Pumpkin. For the first time, Chiyo experiences freedom outside the okiya, yet her longing for her sister lingers. One fateful day, while fulfilling an errand in Hatsumomo's room, Chiyo is unwittingly drawn into a web of deceit and manipulation orchestrated by Hatsumomo, who attempts to subjugate her.
