Part 2/9:
The story begins with Jessica and Franklin Wilhern, who are shocked to discover that the legend of the Wilhern Family curse is true. This curse, rooted in a family's dark past, foretells that the first female child of the family will be born with the face of a pig—this was the consequence of a betrayal long ago by a Wilhern ancestor. The curse states that only when one of their own kind embraces this daughter will the curse be broken.
After a long lineage of sons, the curse finally manifests decades later at the birth of their daughter, Penelope. As a teenager, Penelope's existence is shrouded in secrecy and isolation due to her unique appearance; she spends most of her time hidden away from the world, much to her mother's chagrin.
