1/ in the 1980s, Tony Robbins became the information and self help king. He ran a ton of adverts on late night tv.

Yep. The likes of Brian Tracy were quickly eclipsed by Robbins. That program took the world by storm.

2/ The recordings were on cassette tape. He would have to rent studio time to record, then pay someone to edit it together. Once completely, a company was contracted to produce the materials.

3/ The cassettes were manufactured and packaged. Then they had to be physically (shipped) distributed to those who purchased it. Each step carried significant cost to it. No wonder content creators were so rate.
