Everyone Should Watch Queer Eye

Everyone should watch Queer Eye on Netflix. And if you can’t watch the whole thing because of time, watch the first episode of season 1 to get the know the characters/show, and watch the first episode of season 2 because it’s one of the most powerful pieces of television you’ll ever see.
Three reasons.

  1. Whether you’re a community oriented firefighter, overweight cop, Indian college dropout, or closeted black southerner, Queer Eye shows that we all feel the same shame about ourselves, our bodies, and our confidence. Watching the Fab 5 confront these feelings with people from all walks of life and help them through is cathartic and inspiring. Self doubt is universal. Healing can be too.

  2. Style and home design are “external” and “vain” on one level. But they’re also indicators of our attitudes about ourselves. Live in junk? Dress like junk? Eat Junk? You communicate to yourself and others that this is how you view yourself. People see, but more importantly, you see. And you believe the messages you’re sending yourself. Watching the Fab 5 work will key you into little ways to make your life better.

  3. Looking at my conservative friends here....These men are all super gay. It’s not an abstraction. It’s their life. Even if to you it feels like a “debate,” it’s not a debate to them. It’s who they are and how they live. It’s one thing to know abstractly that parents often alienate their children when they come out. It’s another to hear that story shared by a real person with real pain, and real emotional healing. If southern cops can open their doors, lives, and hearts to them you can at least open your browser to some videos.

It’ll punch you in the heart. It’ll be worth it. You’ll smile when you see other people’s lives transformed. You’ll even learn to moisturize. Trust me. You’ll be glad if you go for it.
