Your cat doesn't need you

in #life8 years ago

We all love cats. We spend hours everyday looking for new cute cats videos on the internet and some people even have these adorable balls of fur in their homes. Yet, there are things that we don't know about them. We feel loved, because cats hang around us, but is this really the case? Dogs go crazy when we leave them and nothing brings them more joy than us returning home to pet them, but what about cats?

Study says...

Study shows that cats may feel no separation anxiety, when it's owner disappears. Scientists placed cats in an unfamiliar enviroment with it's owner, with a stranger and alone. As it turns out cats were meowing a bit more when the owner left, but there were no other behaviors indicating a pet/owner bond. They seem to be much more independent, even when under stress. What we thought was a sign of a cat's lonliness may be just frustration or a learned response. So basically, they treat us like air. They know we're around them, but they don't care unless it's dinner time.

So does it means that dogs are better?

Remember that cats are not pack animals like dogs. They used to live alone in the wild, so trying to make them love us is forcing them to do something against their nature. But there are some good news too! Feral and abandoned cats can live by themselves, so if your cat stays with you that means he/she likes you.
Although cats do not create bonds as strong as dogs, they still want you in their lives. They can just go outside and never come back, but they choose to stay so you're at least not annoying enough for a cat to decide to leave :)
