Top 7 Ways to Not Get Distracted
Staying focused is a vital factor for your success or failure in whatever you do. In life, getting things done and within the right time frame is imperative and focus is a key ingredient in getting things done correctly. Without focus you are bound to get easily distracted.
Here are 7 ways not to get distracted:
Keep your goals in mind
We all have different reasons why we need to focus on certain things. For example, you can focus on what you are studying because you want to pass an exam, or concentrate on completing a task because the deadline is fast approaching and so on. Having your goals in mind will help you not to get easily distracted.
Train your mind to stay focused
The problem might not be the things that are happening around you but rather the things within you. Your mind might be full of stress or you are constantly thinking about something. These thoughts are distractions and you need to eliminate them. The best way to do so is by paying attention to what you are doing right there.
Give yourself a break
One of the best ways to completing a task is to know when to take a break. Over concentrating on doing something will lead to brain fatigue and you will end up getting distracted. When you realize that you are starting to get distracted, simply take a break, rearrange you thoughts and then get back to work while you are focused.
Turn off the background noise
Some people switch on white noise to enable them concentrate and stay entertained while working or reading. Unfortunately, this noise can be a bigger distraction than you might think. Therefore, ensure that the environment you are in is conducive for you to stay focused.
Break it down
It is very easy to get distracted when the task before you seems to be impossibly huge. Instead of handling the task as it is, you can break it into smaller manageable tasks. Complete one task before going to another.
Keep distracting colleagues and items at bay
Many distractions occur around us. This means that you can pinpoint them and even avoid them. If you are constantly being distracted by a co-worker, you can simply let them know that you are concentrating at the moment and do you can talk later. If it is your phone that is distracting you, simply switch it off.
Work with your energy levels
Procrastination and distractions are natural aspects of life. To stay focused and avoid distractions it is a good idea to do those complicated and big tasks when your energy levels are still high. Put off the simpler tasks and do them once you are through with more complex and hard tasks.
Distractions that are around us will always stay and learning how to deal with them is among the best things you can ever do to yourself.

This is clutch. The hardest part for me is to keep distracting people at bay. Very successful people say no to almost everything. I guess this helps them stay focused on what's important. Thanks for your post.
Yeah, focus/concentration and energy management are the keys! Diet, exercise and self-awareness (then acting on that knowledge) helps keep those in check...
very helpful information, it's something you know but staying "focused" on them is the hard part indeed! thanks alot. @extramoney @acromott

I came for Amanda Cerny but the article was also good. BTW regarding Work with your energy levels: Sometimes you have spikes of energy, in my case sometimes in the morning after breakfast or the afternoon around 4pm, make use of that extra boost to get s#it done! Whether it be house chores or work, don't procrastinate on that boost and make use of it! And stop checking your cellphone! You're not that important, and if something really bad happened you'll surely receive a call.
