The Yin and Yang.
This symbol dates back thousands of years in Chinese history.
Tao (/taʊ/) or Dao (/daʊ/ DOW; from Chinese: 道; pinyin: Dào [tâu] ( listen)) is a Chinese word signifying 'way', 'path', 'route', 'road', 'choose', 'key' or sometimes more loosely 'doctrine', 'principle' or 'holistic science'. Within the context of traditional Chinese philosophy and religion, the Tao is the intuitive knowing of "life" that cannot be grasped full-heartedly as just a concept but is known nonetheless through actual living experience of one's everyday being. The White of the symbol is Yang. Yang is Lightness of Being. Yang is Order. Yang is Goodness and Mercy, Forgiveness and Truth
The Black is Yin. Yin is the darkness. Yin is Chaos. Yin is the Evil and Hate, Revenge and Deception.
Each person has both these sides. Yin and Yang are inseparable and we need both. They may even be thought of as complimentary.
The pace our journey should take is on the line between them. One foot in Yin and one foot in Yang.
Yang can be thought of as the Known. All we know as familiar. What we accept as truth and reality.
Yin is the Unknown. It is darkness and chaos.
It is also where new and different thoughts and ideas are hiding.
The Black dot in the White and the White dot in the Black.
The Daoist/Taoist were enlightened enough to understand that everything changes.
The Black dot in the White is to let us know that Chaos can overtake Order very quickly.
The same is true of the White dot in the Black. Order can come about very quickly.
