I was reminded just the other day when Steem breached $8 USD that at one point I had written about being a Steemit Millionaire. It was one of the very first posts I ever made. It was actually a challenge to find it because you can't scroll back in condenser far enough. So, I dug in through steemd.com/@aggroed and found this baby.
Now remember I didn't start on this platform as the useful person you know me as now. It took a while for a love of this place to kick in, but again for some important and life altering reason $8 Steem reminded me of that post. There's no way I'd imagine the story ark I've been on for the last 3 years, but it's been pretty amazing. I'm not sure I can tell everyone it's bound to happen to them. That's probably not the case, but I do think that Steem can pay off in spades if you stick with it.
Bo Burnham tells it better than me
about it. Pretty amazing watching this place blow up!I dreamed about that million. I was envious when @trafalgar wrote
7 cents in 5 posts
I see some minnows who are new to the platform that are upset that their content is only earning a handful of sbds when they post. It's hard to keep perspective on that. It's like listening to my now deceased grandfather about living through WWII and the shortages of everything. I mean, this is only 1 year ago, but again, internet time is like dog years on steroids. So, here's a throw back post about how I made 7 cents in 5 posts. If you think it's hard now you can't imagine how hard it was to get started under free for all exponential rewards and a terrible distribution.
Now I feel like an old man
Cue the Angry and Deranged Old Man Voice:
"Back in my day we didn't have linear rewards you ungrateful shit. We had to earn Steem by fondling whale balls every second of the day because we couldn't upvote worth shit. You know how long it took me to get to a 2 cent vote? 6 MONTHS! Fucking 6 MONTHS! Here's the post I made celebrating that fucking milestone. You god damned kids! GET OFF MUH STEEM!!!"
One lady I like quite a lot on the platform is Stella. She's old school as far as Steem goes. I like her vision of a tribal gift economy. It sounds so much better than the shit fiat world we live in now. Some people aren't giant fans of hers, but I've always liked her. I mean that literally. Check out my steemd.com/@aggroed. The very literal first thing I ever did on Steem was follow her!
Anyway, I'm just reminiscing about the past
Follow your dreams, have fun, earn Steem. Spend a life in crypto. I think there's life and happiness to be had there. Also as a teaser to my next post I'd like to thank the central bankers of the world for being such terrible shitty economy riggers... I'll explain later.
@stellabelle
Where do you see steem going? $1000 or not that far? Definitely won't stop at a $100 in my opinion.
I was dreaming about $300 per Steem the other day. If it ever goes that high I may literaly need to wear diapers again. I'd be EXTREMELY happy with $100 per Steem though!
@aggroed awwww, nothing like a stroll down memory lane lol. I do plenty of those hehehe. I'm still with the spark of making it big, I think this are great times we are in. Thanx again for the shout this morning. Loved it, and locking in the moment in my memories. For some time now, I had dreamed to be able to incorpoorate my hobbies/interest/and passion together but didn't know how. (drums!) Then I was introduced to Steemit, my life will never be the same. This is an awesome place to be. This post is great! We all need to be reminded that you have to start somewhere, the only way is up. Patience and dedication is key. Thank you. Best wishes to you always :)
Starting out always takes work. Participating in a platform that you see potential in is risky. It's a lot of time to put into something that might not get big. In hindsight it's easy for all of us to say we would have loved to have been the first on the bandwagon, but at the time no one would have known it would become what it is today. It could have been time wasted. The early bird gets the worm!
It's true. Early adoption does have its advantages, if things eventually take off. Kudos to ya'll who had the foresight, fortune, etc., of getting in early.
That said, getting in now, with STEEM and SBD seeing a spike in price isn't so bad, either. I need to show something for my efforts, but I don't need to be a millionaire in six months to a year. As you say, starting out does take work. Also, based on what's been said here, it sounds like bugs, kinks and just bad implementation of different things made it hard and frustrating. There's something to be said for patience and jumping in when a lot of things have been solved.
Even if the rewards are incremental at this stage, that beats what I've accomplished marketing and building a brand on Facebook or Twitter, combined and drenched in liquid gold.
Okay, maybe not that last bit. :)
Tell us, @glenalbrethsen, just how large of a following have you built up on your various fakebook and twitter accounts, or are you not ready to reveal that yet? Haha!
You said Fakebook!
I have no problem revealing such information my esteemed Minnow #24,775. The only Facebook page worth mentioning, has as of this moment 18,897 page likes. The twitter account I was referring to has 1,573 followers (I have 19,700 tweets on that account!)
Yes, the spelling was on purpose. ;)
You have a very nice following on facebook. I hope you recruit them all to Steemit.
Stage 1: what the heck is this, fake money for a posting on some kinda Reddit clone? I'll stick with Facebook.
Stage 2: Ok wait you're saying it's real money? Where does it come from?
Stage 3: Ok this seems pretty cool, let's see, I'll just write up a quick into post...
Stage 4: wtf no one is upvoting me, my upvote's worthless, these whales are so greedy...
Stage 5: Hmmmm, I guess I do have a few more steem now, I wonder what would happen if...
Stage 6: ????
Stage 7:
you'll see the extra stages soon!
I will never give up even if there are days I may feel like it :) Resteemed!
Inspiring to see the humble beginnings of one of the whales of today :D
Tell us aggroed, how does it feel to change from “fondling” balls to have yours “fondled” hahahhaha
And I am just using your words xD
it's breathtaking!
Can't wait to see what this year brings. We sure are off to an amazing start.I really enjoyed reading this post (despite the foul language, haha) and was just telling my real-life friend @glenalbrethsen (my first real life friend I was able to convince to sign up for Steemit) about how long it took for my upvotes to be worth a couple of cents. I remember not long ago I was very excited when my vote was worth 4 cents. Life was much improved. And then HF 19 happened and the rest was history.
This was priceless! Back in my day, we walked up hill, in the snow for 10 miles to get 3 cents on Steemit! AND WE LIKED IT!
Lol.
:)
Learning is the most important occupation of every period of our life ... We are a little bit more mature with every word we learn. The ways are much more accessible and much easier than in the past. Exhibitions, biennials, museums, films, books ... All waiting for us to learn and learn. What are you waiting for the steemit family? @aggroed
I can totally relate to you! (At a minor scale off course) . I came to Steemit two months ago and was blown away by the bunch of opportunities you can find! . Off course i was making cents for each post (now i make a lot more than that) and even though i am not a whale nor a Steem millionaire, i have learned quite a bit from all the time spent in here. I learned about crypto, I learned about art, about markdown, improved my music skills, my writing skills and this is just in 2 months!! On top of all that learning... im making money!! And making friends all over the world!.
There’s great value on Steemit. I so grateful I found it! I can see a better life happening to myself thanks to it. I can see myself leaving my dreams because of it!
Thanks for sharing your experience! It is an amazing place to be! Happy New Year , by the way!
I'm grateful to be making what I've made so far for my posts.. Even if it amounts to just over a dollar or so! The power of the platform is insane! My friend who introduced me to it has been on here for about 2-3 years as well. stellabelle was actually one of the people he mentioned to me! :P I'll have to check out her posts and more of yours, of course!
Great post! Thanks for the advice and glad to see you've come so far!
I made a comment yesterday that was valued at 10 dollars, is this calculated with 40 percent SBD? Because that is a ton of cash. I started out making 2 cents a post too. Kids today don't know our struggle!
This sharing is especially useful for beginners. I'm sure of that. And also life teaches everybody in every age. I discovered new steem. But I am making a mess to learn and to succeed in this field. And I will. Maybe I still do not know what I'm going to do here. But I'm trying to do something. Thank you very much for sharing .. @aggroed
you are so right though people shouldn't complain all that much my mom @karenmckersie was one of the ones who started early and was collecting steem when they were at 8 cents now it being up too 7.00$ she is happy but it took a long time to get there making like you said 7 cents in 5 posts... nice one :)
dont reminisce too much. back then you had a job and were making pennies per post. cookies are expensive.
Damn... that as a good read...
Its so amazing to look how big guys like you raised from "nothing". I think i will start to lurk on old active steemers posts just out of curiosity how things were on the "old days"
Tim said he knew one person when he started on here. i didn't even have that. I just got kicked off of facebook one too many times and said "fuckit I'm not going back!"
@aggroed That was funny lol
I love Bo! I haven't seen anything from him in YEARS! Thanks for reminding me of him @aggroed. His youtube songs from back in the day crack me up.
here.I've been on steemit about 6 months now. Just hit 300 followers the other day, I did a milestone and introduction post in one since I never did an intro post when I joined. I recapped my experience on steemit thus far, including becoming what felt like an over night celebrity after winning one of @papa-pepper's wildnstrange contests. Check it out
I hope I can earn enough on steemit to some day pay off my debt and not have to work 60 hours a week hauling garbage. I feel I've been pretty successful with what I've posted. I've never had anything pay out big or make it to the trending section but I've kept plugging away, posting when I can. So far I've been able to take 100 SBD and invest in bitconnect(we will see if that pans out I've earned $240 in interest so far), then this fall steem tanked and SBD soared(that was when it was at $2, lol) and I traded my SBD for all the steem I could get. 2 contests and 66 SBD later SBD is over $12 and I sold my SBD for just over $800 USD. So far I'm happy with how things are going. I'm hanging on to my 160 steem and praying that it goes over $1000 in a few years. Crypto ain't going away. It's here to stay. Steem on!
Hey can I take and use the "post alot, earn nothing, steemit" image from your 7cents post @aggroed?
I won’t lie when I first started I was discouraged. But I kept writing and am still writing. I have by no means arrived but from earning 0 cent to 1 cent to 5 and now 13 cents has been rewarding. I feel appreciated on Steemit and I know it will get better from here. Thanks for reminding us of how we are all started. Hoping for a prosperous 2018.
Lol whale balls. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement to keep steemin
I get what you mean about crypto optimism @aggroed. It kind of feels like a divine gift for those with the vision to freely chose to adopt it. 🎁
@shayne
It is interesting to see how quickly things evolve. You should never miss the right perspective. I see your example as a rolemowel rather than being jealous. Thank you for sharing this. I am new to steem for only about 2 months and started more actively only around Christmas time.
Wish I was where you are today being able to look back. I think this is fair to say. But you should not be jealous and look at what is possible. Thank you for sharing this.
I should frame this.
You worked to become what you are today.
Sometimes I wonder if you sleep on Steem. Hahaha. @aggroed, you are amazing.
You deserve it Sir.
Thanks for sharing
just listened to one of your interviews.
great stuff.
thank you for showing all of us what is possible.
Thanks aggroed for posting this kind of motivation post. I am lucky I am able to earn about $20 not even the first month here on Steemit. I am impressed by your perseverance and commitment to be an honourable blogger. I will save this post in my bookmarks and will go this post if I feel like giving up
I am a novice, is trying to adapt to the environment
This is very excellent
You will become an unquestionable millionaire Steem will earn $ 70 at the end of the year. I am happy for you. Thank you for sharing this special moment of your life. I also work for me. Unfortunately, I joined only recently.
Great post!
Informative post it motivated me thank you dear friend
I'm reading this wonderful post thank you for sharing this informations
I'm following you now
Interesting post sir.I like your post and blog.Upvote and resteem done.
you posted good content thanks
To try !!!
I read the 'it'
Hi there @aggroed it's @Josediccus here, well steemit gained a lot of users during the SBD surge, that's the thing about people, they get too impatient and work less hard they forget its even difficult to earn anywhere
I'm glad you had to show up how it was back then, and well fantastic blog post sir.
nicely posted by you i like it wel said
I'm still in my future past. I'm working on it, and hopefully, someday I'll be looking back with a smile on my face -- proud of all the hardwork and determination.
❤
remember stellabellas fuck men and fuck white people posts back in the day when you wrote that?
:D
Wasn't it $8.43 STEEM?
It goes up and down.. last time I checked it was at $6.99 .
Wow! 6 months was too long 😂
Will you share some of your patience? 😉
Anyway, I’m looking forward to grow and learn, and earn more in this platform 🍻
The one memory lane item that you missed was that epic single comment that you received off of your Steemit millionaire post (which was brilliant and shockingly futuristic and accurate).
This made me laugh out loud.

Remind us again why you are posting on this site?
You certainly don't seem to know very much about it.
$0.00Reply
yeah. Good times. It was true back then!
Nobody will appreciate what they get at the end of it unless it's something really good and they can then decide to give back. Reading this also makes me realize how it would've been for all of the people to have to start off with Steemit.
And fondling whale balls? LOOOOL.
It took 7 months to get to a .07 cent vote and in three days it has gained .08 cents.
Hang on grandpa this thing is about to get interesting.
:-)
Thanks for the words of encouragement. One day I'll be in your shoes - albeit it's a long grinding hill up!
Great flashback!
Thanks for sharing your story! With sustained focus and commitment, anything is possible.
Thanks I feel better 😊
Good
