Carry Yourself Realistically Into The New Year

in #life7 years ago

New Year's Eve. It has become a tradition for most people to make a mental recap of the year we leave behind and the things we want to achieve in the year to come. Therefore, these are the times when people think of changes and habits they desperately would like to get rid of by the end of the next year.

And don't get me wrong, I'm all for this type of self-analysis, but it can be quite a double-edged sword if you let it.

It's effortlessly easy to assume these things we wish now will have to happen throughout the next year, and if not, well, that just means we suck.

Apparently.

You make the promise of losing 20 pounds by February. You tell yourself you'll quit smoking by January, 2nd and you convince yourself you are finally asking that person you like so much on a date. Sounds excellent, doesn't it?

The thing is, after the euphoria, you go back to your daily normalcy and then it just hits, life is not that easy. You have a routine; a job keeping you busy and a family to love. Problems are everywhere you look, and you are suddenly reminded why you started smoking in the first place, why your love life is nonexistent and the reason why you are 20 pounds heavier.

Life is freaking hard, guys, in case you didn't get the memo.

And despite having really good intentions, it's a bit too much to ask yourself to change these things overnight, especially when they didn't appear in your life overnight either.

So, in a sense, New Year's resolutions suck. And do a whole lot more harm than good.

Everyone has aspects in their lives we want to change but forcing ourselves to go into the next year feeling like a complete failure for not being already where we want to be; it's a pretty shitty way to welcome the new year, if you ask me.

Being realistic with the aspects
you'd like to improve in your life
is the key to a happy landing in 2018

Think of your life improvements as a project. As in any other field, thinking how you are going to do this is one of the easiest things to do, whereas actually doing them is an entirely different manner.

You'll need to find the way to squeeze this new project into your daily life so it can slowly turn into something so natural you won't even have to think about it anymore. And without a doubt, there will be moments when you'll feel discouraged, and that's just what happens whenever you start a new entrepreneurship. Hell, you’ll even wonder if your efforts are worth the results; when you actually set the goals yourself.

Lives change in baby steps, so happy 2018, guys!

A toast for you and for the year you had, because regardless of what you went through, you are still here and you totally kicked ass.

You’re right that setting realistic goals is better than just setting goals to feel good about the ridiculous nature of it. Really great insight going into the new year!

Exactly! Happy New Year, buddy! Thanks for stopping by

Nicely put. I think it's also a good time to acknowledge everything that's already working for you, no matter how small.

Yes, yes and more yes! We are so used to complaining about everything we forget to appreciate the things we already have. Happy new year!!
