My journey of escape from war in Syria

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone .
Today I wanted to talk about my story of how I had the opportunity to escaped from war in Aleppo - Syria my birthplace . Aleppo was one of the beautiful places I knew with its history , culture , shops we call it " souks " , the schools , mosques and churches . My school was one of the oldest historical places with a church inside , every year we've seen tourists from all around the world visiting our school , take pictures with us and make beautiful memories .

It was a country that you can live with just one person working in the family and still save some money , go to vacation every once in a while , shop and do everything you want with just that one person in the family working .

It was in 2011 when the war started . we were in the school when a bombing happened near our school . we were preparing for our dance class at the break place when we saw a big smoke and a sound we thought it was something simple but it wasn't. the teachers started to tell us to go home as soon as possible that's when we knew that something serious was going on . Ever since we started to wake up every day with a news of destroyed homes, churches , schools , injuries and losses of friends and family . ACN-20170216-50878-1-1024x683.jpg

we lived in the war for 3 years in that 3 years everyone was just traveling and escaping from Aleppo , and as the middle class we had no choice but staying . we were getting closer to our family and friends who were still surviving and kind of getting used to living in a war . when I say living in war I mean staying awake all night from the sounds of bombing , going to sleep in our neighbors house because our house was in the last floor , studying with led lights because we had no electricity , burning papers and one of our furniture so we can stay warm , we even survived weeks without water and food . we had to wait hours in the line to get a gallon of water or a piece of bread every day . 1050678298.jpg

My sister and I were still going to school ,meeting our friend every day and trying to spend happy time with our friends and family . unfortunately my dads body shop was destroyed from a bombing he was working in a place near our house and finally my mom , my mom was the only one who was worried all the time about us going out , my dad going to work , she was on the phone calling every one of us and making sure everything was okay .

One day we heard a news that the church started to fill papers to take some families to Canada . we were not interested to go out of our birthplace , leave our family and friends behind but my mom she had her mom in Canada so she wanted to apply for this opportunity just in case .

We had no clue if this was a real thing or no so she had us sign the papers and applied for the immigration to Canada . it passed 6 months and we had a news that we have an interview to pass to travel to Canada . my sister and I cried for days , we accused my mom that she wanted to take us apart from our birthplace , friends and our home , but we had no choice . we went to the interview and we've got accepted ... we are now Canadian permanent residents ..... welcome-to-canada.jpg

Ever since we saw that every friend and family immigrated to a place far away from each other . now that I hear my country Aleppo Syria is back to its good old days , I have a tiny hope that one day I'm going to go back to visit my home , my school and my friends that still live there .
