Why people reject new ideas – steemit nugget

in #life7 years ago

Hello guys, this is the first episode of series of posts I named "steemit nugget". I will be dropping them occasionally discussing different issues and ideas.

My Quote of the day

"Creativity, as has been said, consists largely of rearranging what we know in order to find out what we do not know. Hence, to think creatively, we must be able to look afresh at what we normally take for granted." — George Kneller

Have you ever pitched an idea to a friend, your boss or potential investor and got a discouraging response? Well, that’s how the real world works. So, get used to it because it’s common. When I get rejected I don’t blame myself or person that rejected, because two things are involved. It’s either I did something wrong along the way or the person just couldn’t appreciate what I was pitching. The way I envision this kind of situations is that there will always be another time, person, moment and opportunity to try out again.

My friend @nmalove have been on steemit for a while now. She tried to get me to join steemit since November last year, but I turned her down by giving her some silly reasons why steemit isn’t my kind of thing. I learned the hard way as you will find out along the way. The same thing happened to me yesterday, I try to get my close friends to join the steemit community but they turned me down with some silly excuses. They will run back to me when I start balling in Steem and SBD ;)

I also tried to get someone on steemit to be some sort of a mentor to me, but he turned me down. I didn’t get angry, sad or mad at him for turning me down because I prepared my mind on how to handle situations like that. The bottom line is I would still be able to check-in with someone else until I get what I want.

I decided to carry out some research about why new ideas are mostly rejected.

Reasons behind new idea rejections

For something to be truly creative and innovative it must be out of the box, beyond what the ordinary human mind can process. It’s the reason why some people don’t approve to be placed within those set, it makes them uncomfortable and who wants to be uncomfortable? I guess no one.

Novelty

According to the Oxford dictionary, novelty can be defined as “the quality of being new, original, or unusual”. No matter how open-minded you think you are, sometimes you tend to shy away from creative and innovative ideas at first encounter because you try to reduce or remove uncertainty in your life at all cost and new ideas are not usually practical nor certain.
The only way for a person to accept your new idea is when you present it in a way he can process it with ease and then be able to identify as no threat.

Implicit Bias

When it comes to a new idea, people tend to back out because of fear of failure. They prefer to engage with practical and safe executable ideas.

The way to make a person accept your idea is by presenting real evidence to support your idea. In my case, it was when @nmalove showed me some mouth-watering credit alert. That’s when I realized I messed up for not joining her earlier.

Other points can be;

  • The person didn’t visualize your idea as beneficial to him in any way
  • Maybe it was not exciting enough to lure the person in, or
  • The person didn’t understand the idea.

Have your ideas been rejected before? What have you done to resolve the situation?

Please Upvote, Resteem and deliberate. Thank you for reading. See you, next time.

Sort:

It's never easy to feel rejected
People tend to turn down a helping hand due to ignorance
I created a group to preach steemit to others as @eurogee did to me and others
Telling them it is free to join but they doubt it and start calling all sort of names
One of them even demand i send #1000 to his account before he could believe me
so sad!!

It happens bro. Don’t worry they’d come. Just give them time to process and when you approach them next time, support your ideas with real evidence. Thanks for stopping by.

Am also a victim. Some people believe in seeing is believing. They want proof first without that you are wasting time. Of course they will always come back. Nice work bro @aliyu-s thanks for sharing

Yeah, proof is everything. Thank you for stopping by.

Well too often :D
I am a specialist in Online Marketing so I used to be the only person in the company I consult to get them through the digital transformation. Pretty often the older marketing guys are not happy what I trying to do for them just because its a new way to think and overthink their last couple of years. :D

That’s life @quocvietle. Thank you for sharing and stopping by.

Success attracts people.. So keep being you and achieve success..

Yeah, thank you for the support!
