Welcome to the daily Philosopher.
Here to enhance your day with wise words of the great philosophers and thinkers of past and present.
Dale Carnegie, was an American writer and lecturer and the developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Born into poverty on a farm in Missouri, he was the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), a bestseller that remains popular today. He also wrote How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (1948), Lincoln the Unknown(1932), and several other books.
I've often thought to myself whilst talking with people throughout my usual working day, did this person just phone me up to piss me off on purpose!
The answer of course, well generally speaking is no. They are just trying to get me to do something RIGHT NOW!!! that will solve their current problem.
What reading How to win friends and influence people has taught me is, there are far better ways to go about getting things done than to shout and scream...
Dale Carnegie teaches that it is important when dealing with people in any situation, to understand the underlying emotions of the person you are interacting with.
By using eye contact, reading body language and voice tonality, you can adjust your reactions accordingly to make the person feel or react differently to you.
Now we already know this to be true, so why do some of us find it so difficult to control our emotions even a fraction?
I think a good start would be to introduce Mindfulness and basic Philosophical teaching to children at an early age. I honestly believe that we are approaching a tipping point in our society that could easily lead us to yet another World War, and if we don't start to change our ways of thinking we will be doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
You are absolutely right the end is near unless we decide to make some really big changes in our lives!
As much as it is a cliche - change comes from within - i love posts like this
