My Furry Munchkins

in #life8 years ago

I am extremely blessed to have two cuddly, sweet little fur babies. Well, little is relative, I guess. Max, our Great Pyrenees is just over 100 lbs and 14 months old.

If you've never met a Great Pyrenees than you are sorely missing out. These dogs are bred to be livestock guardian dogs which is a special class of working dog. Pyrenees are also considered giants as they are typically well over 100 lbs. In Canada they are used to herd sheep through the mountains and have been known to protect flocks from bear and moose without fear.

Max protects our family. He is the kindest soul I have ever met. Most people that meet Max are immediately shocked by his size and his long fur. They are a little afraid of him and to me that's okay. He does his job without even having to try too hard. If he likes you he will give you the "Pyr Paw" which is where he will sit next to you and put his paw on your knee while you pet him. If he really likes you he will shove his giant head in your armpit until you hug him. He's only only done that to a few people. If he's not impressed by your presence you will go and lay down and watch you, every move you make. Pyrenees are notoriously difficult to train and Max is certainly no different. His personality is completely his own and he just seems to understand the flow of the household.

Our other loveable little furbaby is Wendy, the unstoppable Bassett Hound. We rescued Wendy from what appeared to be a pretty bad situation on a rural farm in Wisconsin. She was just 5 weeks old at the time. We had no idea what to expect from a Bassett, nor how Max would appreciate this new addition at the time. But we new we had to bring her home and get her out of that situation.

Max and Wendy have, of course, become inseparable. She is definitely classic Bassett, very vocal and very opinionated. She is all heart though. Having been raised by a big dog, she thinks she is a big dog and she has the personality to prove it!

We are blessed as a family to have such wonderful dogs that love us so much. We certainly love them to bits and they bring us immeasurable joy!

Do you have a furbaby that you just couldn't live without??

Two sweet dogs. I don't have one but getting a golden retriever is in my life's plan. Might be a few more years before I do though.

Thanks! Oh, Golden's are wonderful dogs, you will have a very loyal and loving best friend. Good luck!!

Thank you, I have wanted one my entire life. I just want a backyard for him/her to be able to play in, and for that I need a few more years :)

What a beautiful ohana :)

Thank you very much 😉
