Happiness comes from being able to just be as you are, like the child like state we (almost) all remember.
Detaching away from the picture created by my brain that appears in my consciousness (also known as a reality) through consistent meditation and mindfulness healed me from my mental and emotional unrest that were never able to really calm down despite doing things that the world should make you happy and relaxed, this eventually turned into suicidal depression.
Until I found the eastern philosophies of non-duality and meditation that speak of this problem and that it's actually part of life when you are focused on the ever changing picture instead of constant state of rest that is just 'being'.
This has worked for thousands of people who try it seriously, ask any long term practitioner. ;)
