In my experience with the substance (and I do have quite a bit of experience), I have found absolutely no benefit to drinking at all. It doesn't matter if it's "social drinking", or more aggressive partying.
First, let's get the "health benefits" out of the way.

Once in a blue moon, someone tries really hard to justify his drinking, so random studies about "why red wine is good for your heart", or "possible health benefits of moderate drinking" pop up. However, I haven't found a single reliable source where:
- There is concrete evidence that alcohol is actually healthy. No "probably", "possibly", "may", etc.
- The benefits come without downsides. Even if let's say, wine lowers your blood pressure, it also stresses your body unnecessarily by making it process all the alcohol and other toxins in the drink.
You can get the benefits from other foods/drinks/activities without any downsides, so don't use these health claims to justify your drinking
And now I'll start being subjective. Alcohol doesn't have any social benefit, either.
It may make you feel more mellow and relaxed. You may be able to talk to others easier. But the systems in your body that make it hard for you to socialise are there for a reason. They give you feedback about how you should proceed. Different emotions and thoughts let you know how to interpret the environment and how to act. You feel awkward if you do something dumb. You feel confident if you do something that impresses or pleases others. Use these emotions to improve yourself. Don't try to circumvent them by using any substance.
And if after knowing all this you still want to have a beer, by all means, go for it! Just don't lie to yourself about why you do it.

Drinking is fun the first few years but then it only goes downhill. Your article is good advice.
