Letusan disertai dengan suara gemuruh. Ini adalah letusan terbesar selama 2018 ini. Abu vulkanik menyelimuti beberapa daerah di sekitar Gunung Sinabung, diantaranya Kecamatan Simpang Empat, Naman Teran, Pqyung, Tiga Nderket dan Munthe.

Warna atmosfer agak abu-abu disertai bintik-bintik kecil yang jatuh ke atap bangunan, pepohonan, sepeda motor, mobil, orang-orang yang lalu lalang dan berbagai benda lainnya. Lama kelamaan bintik-bintik itu berubah menjadi lapisan abu.
