For some little hotels it's just about surviving the next month ...
Dear friends, many of you know I have designed, consulted and developed many large and also small hotel real estate projects. Especially sustainable travel projects and eco-resorts are my main focus today.
When it comes to the economic survival of small privately run hotels, it's about hands-on help and about every penny.
May I invite you into a world of practical upcycling design?
How can I get a small hotel up and running again with profit without investing any or very little money? On the one hand business fundamentals are of course of great importance. But the guests have to feel comfortable and the design has to fit the hotel concept. Concepts are different and it is never about my personal taste.
In this case, a small hotel was in distress.
Why? A new large, global hospitality chain opened up a hotel next to it and ruined the prices. They pressed the price level within the area ridiculous low down. This strategy is not new.
There was no money for refurbishment.
But a new style that fit the taste of the guest was needed. Believe it or not, I went to the attic and upcycled old furniture and decorative elements that have been put at the attic of the hotel ages ago. The owners completely forgot about this old stuff.
Yeah, I am a designer and hospitality advisor, but I love to create with my own hands and I love upcycling an reuse stuff very much! Some little things we had to buy from the stores. The overall budget was Euro 5,500 for the complete refurbishment with all rooms and public spaces. Then we called the whole crew of the hotel and introduced our new design concept and asked for help. Everybody helped! With the help of the whole team, we created everything our selves and finally saved the little hotel and ALL jobs.
Follow me further down,
see what we created from old and forgotten stuff that we have given a new life:) ...

You do some really amazing stuff, Anutu! I love how you turned this into a totally new place, its so incredible. Well, thanks to the people there for also offering their help!...😊
So so happy you liked it @audreybits <3 Yes we helped this way many times before and will for sure in the future. It's such a good feeling to help to keep jobs and secure peoples life this way. We met some awesome people on such occasions and learned much more about their struggle in life.
What a lovely story @anutu. I'm so happy that you were able to save the hotel. it seems to me that the lighting was a huge part of it. Is that were most of the money went? 😊
Thank you so much @gillianpearce <3 Yes, lighting, paint, and gypsum plates, all other things were re-used and upcycled. I loved most that everybody helped, It was such a wonderful team building program as a bonus.
