So you think you're free...

Freedom is the name given to the fact that we choose our course. If we don't choose it, then we are not free. The fact that we don't have time for leisure proves that we have no freedom.

"We are free". This phrase may seem very abstract today with so many the daily activities, responsibilities that all people have. No one has time to think about "being free" and this lack of time seems to prove that freedom doesn't exist. Can someone who works so hard not even finding time to perform other aspects of their life (such as reading, watching movies, having good conversations, even the possibility of attending courses, traveling, developing their creativity, learning new things) really say he or she is free?

Leisure is the name we give to all that we constantly lack. Leisure is not something we can give up in the name of work. In fact, that is what we set aside when we are in the struggle for survival. But it's our leisure that teaches us and prepares us to be better, more elaborate human beings, including at work and, above all, towards our family and friends. It's through leisure that we recharge our energies for the efforts we have to make in our day to day lives.

Where does freedom come in this case? Leisure is the chance to expand freedom into all spheres of our lives. Freedom is the name given to the fact that we choose our course. If we don't choose is, we are not free. The fact that we don't have time for leisure proves that we have no freedom. Or that we don't know how to use it. A part of life gets lost there. The biggest problem of freedom is that life can also be kind of meaningless when we don't think about what we are doing with it. Freedom is, therefore, more than something that you have or don't have, or something you know or don't know how to use. It is an ability to think in your own life and to choose to be responsible for your own choices.

Freedom is something that is part of the human being. You can't feel you become a human being without have taken freedom to yourself. Freedom is not only something that limits us since we think that yours one end where mine begin. It's more than that. Freedom is the ability to organize life so that work and leisure may be possible. But above all, it means to be aware of yourself within these dimensions of life.
