You must have seen the extravagant frenzy of the Carnaval in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, and have obviously felt the craze of Diwali in North India. That feeling of happiness and making memories with your loved ones is what everyone looks forward to all year.
But, if you have been to Kolkata during Durga Puja, you must have figured out why it is called the City of Joy. During the four days, the Puja fever grips the heart of everyone in the city regardless of age, religion, class or gender.
There are must-do rituals and traditions of Durga Puja that bring the entire Bengali community together. Some of them are written in shastras, others have become an integral part of the Durga Puja culture over the years. Visiting Maddox Square in Ballygunge, hopping from one pandal to another with friends all night long, spending time with your family, catching up with friends - these too are traditions that just cannot go undone. However, above all, Durga Puja is essentially the worship of womanhood and the celebration of love, art and creativity ..
Here are some pictures that I took during the festival in kolkata ....

The festival of Durga Puja looks exotic and interesting. Since it celebrates women, it also sounds feminist too. :D

Never heard of the Kolkata festival before. Look pretty cool. When is it? Is the art work the same every year or is it new every year?
Kolkata is in India .. it was the capital of the of the country under British rule .... and the artwork is not the same every year ..
