Hey there!

Seen as this is my first post here, I thought I'd introduce myself.

I am Ashley.
Currently living in Rotterdam.

I believe in life.
I believe in love.
I believe in freedom.
I believe in sharing authentically.

Authenticity, love and freedom are the 3 things I live from.

I absolutely love cats.
I love swearing.
I am in love with food.
I have a wonderful group of friends who have become my family.
I am a freelance barista.
I vlog on YouTube and soon will be up on Dtube.
I like to write.

Anything else you want to know?
Ask!

BIG love,

Ashley

Interesting that you say you believe in sharing authentically. Do you think there is a lot of inauthenticity in the world? Often people will say they want authenticity but the majority of people cannot really accept that level of communication.

Woah Dana,

Cannot believe you went all the way back to my first post haha!

Yes I do believe there is a lack of authenticity in the world.

Even just as simple as asking someone 'how are you?', often than not, you'll get an inauthentic answer back. 'Yeah I am good', when in reality, they are sad and in pain, and want to hide that.

I believe in sharing all of who I am.

So if you were to ask me right now 'how are you Ashley?' , I am going to say 'Well I am feeling a bit weak, tired, I have pain in my foot but also hopeful because I just found out that I don't need an operation just yet so that is good news!'

Haha

How about you?

What is your take on this?

In my blog post I was thinking about the same problem but from a different angle. I think people are not allowed to have authentic connections due to lack of privacy. Privacy encourages authenticity while transparency in my opinion encourages wearing the mask (inauthenticity). The mask is what people wear when they know they have an audience and so their behavior inevitably changes in order to impress or meet expectations of this audience (which does judge).

In my blog post it is called Self Monitoring. When a person corrects what they say on Steemit for example because they know it's going to the blockchain for life. When a person measures their morality not based on how they feel about anything in particular but based on how others will respond to their decisions.

I would like to know what you think of the concept of "virtue signals"? That is when a person inauthentically expresses an opinion or behavior to send the signal to the others that they are a "good person". This behavior in my opinion evolves from increasing the level of transparency and as a result people put on the appearance of good behavior but is this really enough? Is it enough to simply look like a good person?

I agree that in some cultures "how are you" really means "how are you". In particular, in Russia/Ukraine and some other places (possibly Netherlands too), if you ask a person "how are you?" it's authentic. In the USA it would depend on context, who is asking it, etc. From you I would assume it's authentic based on what you tell me about your values.

The way I tend to do things is adapt to individual persons, circumstances, context, time. Generally though when I ask a person how they are doing (if I know the person or have some history) it's because I'd like to know.

And yes I read your first post. I wanted to see who you are considering you appear to have arrived at similar principles (utilitarian). It would seem you are fairly new to Steem but you're doing well on this platform.

I follow you now, so I'll interact with you more and bring some attention to your posts.

Hi, I'm George. Welcome to Steemit. Feel free to interact with people, ask questions where you are confused and make friends. Here in Steemit, we love each other as family.

Hi George!
Thank you :)
I am slowly getting to grips with it all, but I'll definitely reach out when I need to. Thanks dear.

Hey welcome to Steemit @ashleykalila I'm sure you'll love Steemit, like almost all Steemians.

Keep blogging! Coole Vorstellung. Schau auch mal bei mir vorbei @cryptogainer

Thank you! :)

Hey Ahsley, welcome aboard! I like the positive vibes coming from you post, keep going :)

Thank you lady Eva! :)

Welcome! I checked out your YT channel. Please verify yourself. A link from that channel back to this account would work, or perhaps post a vblog about it? Yes, please, definitely check out dtube.video. You'll make way more money posting your content there anyway.

There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

Adding photos to your account as a new Steemian may be confusing at first too. The easiest way it to click to "Submit a Story." Once in there, use the built in Steemit tool to upload an image from your computer. Below the posting window, you will see "Insert images by dragging & dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or by selecting them." Click on the blue text. Once the image is uploaded, you can copy and paste the link into your account settings.

Verifying your identity is very important because it will get you more support and people will trust you more. The best way to verify is to link back to your Steemit account by using another public social media account. For example, I posted my Steemit articles from here through my Twitter account. Another person posted their Steemit information on their Facebook account. Some people will even post a video of themselves writing out their account information since that cannot be Photoshopped. The more famous a person is or the more valuable their content is, the more important it is that they verify. If a new account falls within those two categories and fails to verify, it may get blacklisted.

Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.
