While a lot of people are swoon by male lead Henry Golding, CRAZY RICH ASIANS do exist in real life! And coming from me who see all these from my four years in Beijing, I'm going to share what it is like to be the child/children of Crazy Rich Asian in China.
*Note: These are opinions based on observation.
A report from NY Times,
China’s rapid economic rise has turned peasants into billionaires. Many wealthy Chinese are increasingly eager to stow their families, and their riches, in the West, where rule of law, clean air and good schools offer peace of mind, especially for those looking to escape scrutiny from the Communist Party and an anti-corruption campaign that has sent hundreds of the rich and powerful to jail.

1. Your parents are wealthy
Most of the members of crazy rich community are children of ultra rich people. So if you're ultra rich, your money comes from your parents, who are busy at work and won't have time for you. You may have your little business, but your parents still support you.
source
2. Your parents buy you a car, or almost anything you want(legally)
Not just any ordinary one, it must be special with a customized number plate; it should be either a Lamborghini, Maserati, Rolls Royces, Ferrari, or all of them. Mercedez and BMW are a bit too old school.
source
3. You don't look at price tags when shopping
Like how expensive can they be?
4. You travel with a private family jet
No queues, no waiting in line, and champagne provided
5. You don't live in your home country
Chances are you will be in the best school abroad, living in the best conditions, in the best education. Well, anything in caucasion countries are the best for your parents because they want you to experience a different world.
source
6. Your job is to spend money
You don't have to work, you don't even need to clean the house, or cook. Because you can get everything done by employing a maid, or eat out at the best fine dining restaurant.
source
7. You eat at the best restaurants
You want to get the best and highest quality of food, so it is obviously at a higher price too. But they are not very expensive for you.
source
8. Your family have more than just money
Your father is most likely an active member in the political party and have strong power; Or they have connections to key people in the party. Or you have a friend in the political party and they can get certain things done for you easily, in return, they expect favors from you too.
9. You don't stay at every hotel though...
You either stay in one of the hotels your family own, or relax at the private island resort of a friend. It keeps the "economy" running within the circle. You have properties all over the world, and if you don't have one in that country, you buy one.
source
Last but not least...
10. Private collections
Collections of diamonds, watches, jewels, hermes bag.. Because only the Ultra Rich can afford them

Thats all from me, see you next time.

This all sounds like some far-fetched fantasy world to me. Did you say this is your life, or did you say this is what you saw of that lifestyle while in Beijing? While I think many people aspire to that kind of lifestyle, I'm not so sure I would like it. I mean, it's great to not have to pay attention to the world around you, but I wonder how satisfying it really is. I like knowing that I've worked for the things I have....but perhaps I'd also like knowing that someone worked hard enough for me so that I don't have to work for anything.
Hi there, thanks for reading my post.
This is based on what i've seen in Beijing, its different from what the life i have back in Malaysia.
In Beijing, although not everyone has the same lifestyle here, but you can certainly see them on the streets especially near the Central Business District in Beijing. Houses in Beijing cost around $7,000 or more per square meter, so buying mansions abroad is no problem for the wealthy class of Chinese here.
Child policy also plays a role . China's one child policy was implied for 35 years, so the wealth is carry from one generation to another. In China, the parents will take care of the child 's affairs until they get married and start a family. It 's like a tradition or a duty of a parents, meaning that a child need not be concern about not getting his first house or his first car because his parents ( usually the grandparents chip in too) to provide him so that he can get married.
This is what happens, when almost everyone in China can have only one child in the family for 3 decades.
Another fact, since land in Beijing belongs to government (leasehold), if they tear down your apartment or house for development, you will be compensated with cash or 2 more houses (some times more). This is why, Beijingers can become rich overnight. Beijingers don't even need to work anymore, their rent is good enough to cover their living expense.
It's pretty incredible how much of an effect one policy can have in such a short period of time. The one child policy can seem inhumane to many, and it certainly caused many abuses, but I kind of like the idea in theory. It seems to have been effective in Beijing anyway, if it is creating such wealth and financial stability.
hehehehe oh my goodness! what would it be like to be THAT wealthy?!?!?!?! i don't think i'll ever know ;)
hehehehe
Super fun post that had me giggling (at all the commentary) and my eyes open wide at all the extravagance!!!

i gotta show more pictures of the cars around here
Jaw dropping over here... haha
Not sure I'd necessarily need to be 'crazy rich'. Teaching my children to be humble with that much money would be a difficult task. It's great to see an economic boom in China though. They're producing some amazing tech - phones and such.
I'm sure not every kid of billionaires are show offs. A report even says that these Ultra Rich Chinese kids would not even disclose where their money come from. In my opinion, if its from the family business, they will say it proudly and probably do a bit of advertising. This help to boost the credibility of the business. But if they say "it's nobody's business", it sounds fishy regarding where the money come from
Well I'd say this is the exception and not the rule. There are a lot of wealthy people in the world from different backgrounds and the same can be said.
agreeing with you, I'm just sharing some of the facts of what the kids of crazy rich asians from China are like, and they can be crazier than what you watch in the movies, Crazy Rich Asians. These 1% of Chinese can be insane.
thanks for reading! i appreciate it
No worries - have you seen the show Fresh Off The Boat? Good stuff - lol!
yeap, not all the seasons though =) its funny I didnt see the parents whooping the child's ass. LOL.
but i do agree its a nice, lighthearted show. Constance wu still manage to play a strict parent. Hahahaha...
Haha, paving the way towards super/ultra rich?
LOL, if i am them i would set up foundations to help people and contribute moe. By looking how these chinese kids handle money is like no big deal for them. You hardly see Toyota cars in Beijing 😱 its so common to see luxury brands on the streets
True, I would definitely do the same. Setting up a foundation is a very wise thing to do, but then to maintain one foundation account not cheap. Haha (but you already ultra-rich, so it doesn't matter). Really super rich, so I have nothing to say, since it is their money after all.
Najib and Rosmah
lol...how about his children? probably out of msia
lol
@asianetwork,
Ancient Chinese Proverb: Shirtsleeve to shirtsleeve in three generations.
Quill
This is so true.... 😆😆
That amount of wealth is insane. But at the same time it's what we're all striving for, in a way, so maybe one day we can all make it there :)
true. getting there is the challenge too. sometimes behind all the luxury, someone has been working for decades to achieve what they gave today. thry saved a lot, worked more than 8 hours a day, grinding day n night. and i agree with you, we will all get there for sure =)
I had to laugh at this part of the Times quote "in the West, where rule of law, clean air and good schools offer peace of mind," especially after today with two of our president's former aides found pleading guilty to major crimes, roll backs on coal regulations that are expected to kill more than 1500 people each year, and our schools? Well, if you are wealthy you can afford good schools (or to live in a neighborhood with good public schools), but many in the U.S. cannot afford them.
I don't think things are all that different here. We don't have a communist party, but we do have the oligarchy.

East and West are so far apart, yet we can see a certain similarity. =)
thanks for reading my post, i really appreciate it =)
